Where to Surf?

Most of the surf breaks in Arugambay are all located within 20 – 30 mins of the town. This collection of unique and natural surfing points are indeed a crowd puller, as surfers can pretty much surf in a new point, each day of the week! The fact that so many points exist, is down to the determination, passion and dedication of the true surfing tribe that continues to haunt these east coast waters.   • : Prepare to spend the whole day here as it’s remote. And don’t forget to pack your lunch and bring plenty of water with you. It’ a long ride through the jungle and dirt road to reach the point. Usually you will see a lot of wild animals on your way there.

Priyal (Madu)

Madu is our Head Coach who’s ISA Level 1 qualified. He has many hours of surf coaching under his belt in India, Bali and Sri Lanka. Just ask him anything he would be delighted to help you.

Anupa ( Anu)

Anu is a ISA level one qualified surf instructor with a smile on his face all the time. He’s also the incharge of rooms.

Sandun

Sandun has many many hours of surf coaching experience and he’s undoubtly the best surfer in our team. He’s also the head in smoothie balls.

Avishka (Kolla)

Avishka is the newest addition to our team and he’s the in charge of photography. He makes you look like a pro with his photography.

Lalaka (Lala)

Lala fell in love with Surfing and Arugambay five years ago when first came to Arugambay and tried out surfing for the first time. Ever since Lala and surfing has been inseparable. So just ask him anything about surfing we will tell you.

How to Get There

Hire a Van or Car
The easiest way to get to Arugam Bay from Colombo is by car/van. The journey lasts about 8 hours depending on the traffic and the time of day you are travelling.
We can arrange a pick-up in Colombo for:
6- seater van from Colombo City US$ 142,-
6-seater van from Colombo Airport US$ 158,-
15- seater van from Colombo Airport US$ 189,-
We can also arrange transport (pick-up/drop off) to and from other destinations. Please inquire us for more details and costs.
Local Buses
Local busses from Colombo Main Bus Terminal will depart regularly every hour. The price is Rs 400 – 600. It will take 10-12 hours, depending on how many stops. There will be 1 or 2 shifts.

Direct bus, no 98, departs twice a day from Colombo to Pottuvil at 5 am and 8 pm and the journey will be around 8 – 9 hours. Price is 400 – 600 Rs. Direct private AC bus from Colombo departs daily from Maradana Zahira College car park (opposite Maradana Train Station) at 8pm and arrives at Pottuvil Bus Station around 3.45 am. The price is Rs 1500, and if you have extra luggage they will charge you 500 extra. A tuk tuk from bus staion to Stardust will be around Rs 300.

Sri Lankan Railway (Train)
Train from Colombo Central Railway Station to Ella (9 hours) or Badulla 10 - 11 hours.
Getting from Badulla or Ella to Arugam Bay:
By private van from Badulla, 4 -5 hours. The price will be around US$ 95
By private van from Ella 3-4 hours. The price will be around US$ 80
By bus to Pottuvil, 6 hours (sometimes 1 shift) and thereafter 10 minutes tuk tuk drive to A-Bay.
Flights
Cinnamon Air has regular flights to Batticaloa with a stopover in Sigiriya for US$ 258 per person 4 times a week – Mondays, Tuesdays, Fridays and Saturdays.
